PENDLETON — The Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office arraigned a man Wednesday for the killing of Allen A. Spencer nearly two years ago.

Joseph Quintana Jr., 33, of Pendleton, entered no plea to the single count of murder. His court-appointed attorney, Douglas Fischer, deferred entering a plea until after a bail hearing.

Quintana appeared in court at the Umatilla County Court House, Pendleton, via video from the Umatilla County Jail. Umatilla County Circuit Court Judge Lynn Hampton ordered Quintana to stay behind bars on no bail until the hearing Thursday, July 26, at 9 a.m.

A Umatilla County grand jury indicted Quintana for the murder Tuesday. He has been in the jail since May 5 on one count of criminal trespass, one of contempt of court on three counts of failure to appear for court proceedings

Pendleton police and emergency medical personnel arrived just after midnight July 23, 2010, at the Pendleton Woolen Mills, 1307 S.E. Court Place, to find Spencer, 46, of Pendleton stabbed several times.

Efforts to save his life failed, and he died at the scene, Pendleton police reported.
