LA GRANDE - Beginning March 18, contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation will close Interstate 84 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, for five nights at the Hilgard Interchange at exit No. 252. The closure will allow workers to begin building a new bridge over Interstate 84.

During the closure, which will include March 18-20 and March 24-25, traffic will detour around the work zone, using freeway off- and on-ramps. Prior to the detour, traffic will be reduced to single-lane traffic.

Traffic control devices and detour signs will provide advanced notification and motorists are cautioned to slow down and drive with extra care.

The closure schedule is subject to change, depending on weather conditions.

Additionally, motorists should watch for occasional daytime single-lane traffic near the interchange beginning Monday.
