HERMISTON - The Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot will be busy destroying chemical weapons until about 2010, Project Manager Don Barclay told the City Council Monday night.

For the next three years after that the depot will destroy buildings, safety clothing and other items that may have been contaminated, he said, adding that the facility's furnaces are capable of melting concrete.

"What has been contaminated goes away," he said.
