More than a dozen store fronts are empty on Pendleton's Main Street, and that's only counting the ground floor. Darkened windows and "For Lease" signs have become common place during the last few years on a street many Pendleton residents remember as bustling with shoppers and retailers.

Now another endeavor is under way to revitalize downtown and inject more money into the local economy. The city has received a grant from the Oregon Transportation and Growth Management Program to hold a public workshop May 28 to shape a plan to that end.
