SALEM - The Oregon Legislature's emergency board has approved a federal grant providing an additional 35,000 low-income families with help for home heating bills.

The board handles legislative matters when lawmakers are not in session.

The additional federal dollars require no new state expenditures and will increase the number of low-income Oregon families receiving assistance to nearly 100,000.
