HERMISTON - Emergency sirens near the Umatilla Chemical Depot will sound on Wednesday as part of an annual community-wide drill.

The time of the activation isn't known, but people should expect the sirens to blare for one minute with a non-wavering test tone. This will not preclude the normal monthly test at the end of the month, an official with Oregon Emergency Management said Monday.

The drill is a joint operation between emergency management in Umatilla, Morrow and Benton counties, as well as those with the states of Oregon and Washington.

Many activities will be held for various emergency officials, including an evacuation demonstration in Plymouth. Two sites in Kennewick will practice decontamination of mock patients.
