LA GRANDE - An Indiana University of Pennsylvania administrator is the new president of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

The Oregon State Board of Higher Education announced Friday it had chosen Bob Davies to head the school in the rural northeastern corner of the state.

Davies is vice president for university relations at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, managing fundraising efforts and its endowment program along with other duties, including legislative affairs.

Davies will replace interim Eastern president Dixie Lund, who took over in July 2007.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski welcomed Davies to Oregon, saying that rural universities are vital to the economic health of the region.
