PENDLETON - The Umatilla-Morrow Education Service District will offer a beginning sign language class at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton during fall term.

The three-credit class will start Sept. 21 and will meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. The course will be taught by Malina Lindell, the ESD's resource specialist for educational interpreting and American Sign Language.

The class is the first of a series of three intended to equip students to communicate with the deaf. Students may gain the skill necessary to continue on to become sign language interpreters, or to work with deaf students. The second course will be taught winter term, and the third spring term.
