The theme for this year's Umatilla Landing Days Celebration to be held June 26, 2010 is directed toward the beginning of the City of Umatilla. The crucial role the ferry boat and ferry boat crossing here in Umatilla played in the City's development from the very beginning is being highlighted as central to this year's celebration. We have built the logo and emphasis around the ferry crossing. We are reenacting the ferry boat crossing by giving ferry boat rides from the Umatilla Marina to the original departure point of the ferry, across to the Washington landing and then back to the Marina.

A booth will be set up at the Marina docks. It will contain a display of ferry boat pictures, a brochure detailing the ferry boat development, role and activities, a ferry boat banner created by the Coca Cola Company and an attendant to answer questions.

The last person to operate the ferry across the river, Alva Stephens, will be on the ferry boat to share stories with the passengers as they ride the ferry. Also, Keith Rodenbaugh (the son of Harry Rodenbaugh who was the last owner of the ferry boat that crossed here at Umatilla) still lives here in Umatilla.
