Fire shuts down Pendleton Bare Bones

Fire early Friday ripped through the interior of the tobacco and convenience store Pendleton Bare Bones. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

PENDLETON — The interior of Pendleton Bare Bones went up in flames early Friday.

Capt. Dan Hergert of the Pendleton Fire and Ambulance Services said Pendleton police a little after 2 a.m. responded to the tobacco and convenience store at 1304 S.W. Dorion Ave. for a burglary alarm. The officer called for the fire department when he saw smoke coming from the building.

The firefighting crew arrived to smoke coming out of the roof, Hergert said, and then “some sort of flash over” or an explosion occurred, which “kind of snuffed the fire out.” Firefighters entered the store and knocked down the remaining flames.

No one was harmed in the fire, Hergert said, and the Pendleton crew was on the scene until about 5 a.m. He also said the cause remains under investigation.
