HEPPNER - The Heppner Ranger District of the Umatilla National Forest is holding a public meeting as part of its work to discuss the upcoming assessment for fuels reduction called the Potamus Planning Area. The meeting will be at 6 p.m., Thursday July 2 at the Heppner office, 117 S. Main St., in Heppner.

In 2001, the Morrow County community wildfire protection plan determined the Penland Lake Wildland-Urban Interface as a priority area for fuels reduction. Thursday's meeting will discuss defensible space strategies, evacuation routes, broader landscape level treatment design and other resource interests. The Forest Service is looking for opinions on treatment suggestions.
