A quest for a smaller town than Casper, Wyo., brought Danielle McKay and Alan Pittsley to Pendleton, where, in March, McKay became the newest member of the downtown merchant class.
Dani Raes Clothing and More, 27 S.W. Frazer Ave., at the corner of Southwest First Street, is a gently used, name-brand clothing store, said McKay.
A south-facing front and generously sized windows make an airy boutique of the space Dani Raes inhabits. The clothing labels keep to the theme: Aeropostale, Cruel Girl, Maurices and Hollister. Its mostly for women, but there are some styles for men.
McKay said she buys her clothing from people who find her shop on Facebook, and she takes some consignments, as well. She opened the doors to Dani Raes on March 28.
This type of store is the kind of place I would go for clothing before going to a (full-priced) retail store, she said. Recycling is part of her lifestyle, another inspiration behind Dani Raes.
Prices for a pair of womens jeans range from $4 to $19, depending on the brand; childrens range form $1.99 to $5. Very affordable,?said McKay.
In addition to clothing, McKay sells shoes and other accessories, including handmade jewelry by Papparazzi.
Saturdays are double-stamp days, when purchases earn buyers two stamps toward discounts on future purchases.
Opening shop in Pendleton turned out to be a pleasant experience. The Jump Start program offered help finding a space, for example.
Everyone here seems really helpful and willing to step up and let you know what and where to go, she said.
Dani Raes is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
