PENDLETON - Happy Canyon Director Kevin Hale was one of several people honored recently throughout the state by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

OLCC handed out the salutes to licensees and other officials for promoting alcohol safety and working to prevent underage drinking.

Hale, who is in charge of security for the Happy Canyon Night Show and Dance Hall is the owner of Pendleton Electric.

"Kevin supervises more than 100 vendors, security personnel and others," said Ken Palke of the OLCC. "(He) is responsible for the safe and legal sale of alcohol at this event, which attracts thousands annually. Kevin puts public safety first. This community relies on him to produce a money-making event while keeping area families and friends safe."

A total of 15 awards were given. Retired NBA forward Jerome Kersey, now director of player programs for the Portland Trail Blazers, assisted the commissioners in handing out the plaques at the award ceremony held in Portland last Thursday.

The award winners were nominated by fellow licensees, members of the community or OLCC staff.
