HERMISTON- A chemical spill Tuesday at the Space Age Fuel truck stop on Highway 207 was probably the result of high temperatures, Hermiston firefighters said.

A 55-gallon barrel of hydrogen peroxide ruptured inside a semitrailer hauling mixed chemicals and spilled through the bottom.

Capt. Pat Hart said there was no danger to the public from the spill. A hazardous material crew was scheduled to clean up the mess sometime this morning.

"We think the heat yesterday had a lot to do with the incident," Hart said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. and the truck stop had to be shut down for a few hours while crews assessed the situation.
