Hermiston Police are investigating a stabbing at a residence near a storage unit complex south of town. They have arrested a Hermiston man, Aaron Zuwala, 34, on two counts of attempted murder.

Police responded to a report of an assault on Kelli Boulevard around 9:55 p.m. Sunday. They found two men who had been stabbed.

Both the men, Harold Piercy, 72, and Richard Rukaveno, 64, who live at 2350 Kelli Blvd., were transported via Life Flight to a Portland hospital.

Hermiston police said their conditions as of Monday afternoon were serious, but both were in stable condition. Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Oregon State Police crime lab to help collect evidence.

According to a press release sent out by Hermiston police, all the men involved in the incident knew each other. Zuwala has been lodged in the Umatilla County Jail and is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

A representative for the storage units, located at the same address, said they could not comment on an ongoing investigation, but that their business had nothing to do with the incident. Edmiston confirmed there was no tie between the crime and the business.
