HERMISTON – Current college sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for scholarships to be awarded by the Hermiston Rotary Club. The Ralph Brownson Memorial Scholarships are funded by earnings from oil well leases in Kansas that Ralph Brownson, a longtime Hermiston resident and Rotarian, bequeathed to the club upon his death.

The scholarships are earmarked for current college students, with the intent of easing the financial burden of those whose academic performance is already established. They are awarded based on financial need, academic performance and leadership potential.

Applications are due by Wednesday, June 13, with interviews for finalists taking place on Tuesday, June 26. Rotary President Mark Ettesvold said it’s the group’s hope to interview finalists in person, but will conduct interviews by conference call or other electronic means as needed.

Applications are available at the Hermiston campus of Blue Mountain Community College, 975 S.E. Columbia Drive; the Hermiston School District office, 502 W. Standard Ave.; at the administrative department at Good Shepherd Medical Center, 610 N.W. 11th St., or by email request at mettes@gshealth.org.
