HERMISTON - Two horse-related classes are scheduled to begin this week through Blue Mountain Community College.

A 10-week class on horses and horsemanship is scheduled at BMCC's Hermiston center.

Nathan Wells, BMCC's new animal science instructor, will teach the class. It starts with an orientation from 6-9 p.m. Thursday in Columbia Hall Room 108, Hermiston. The curriculum will cover horse training, behavior, reproduction, nutrition and disease. The lab portion of the class will involve students in basic horsemanship techniques for breaking, training, evaluating and properly caring for horses, said Karen Hill, BMCC's Foundation and marketing director.

BMCC's rodeo coach, Tygh Campbell, will teach the Basics of Horse Trimming and Shoeing. This course starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bar-M Ranch and lasts 10 weeks.

Students may register at any BMCC location. More information is available by calling the BMCC Agriculture Department, 278-5868.
