Giaus Miller, Tracey Coon
Airman Giaus Miller and Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Tracey Coon have graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas.
During training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
They also earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Miller, who earned distinction as an honor graduate, is the stepson of Maria Mitchell of Milton-Freewater and brother of Naomi Miller of St. Helens. He was a 2004 graduate of McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater.
Coon, son of Katheryn Wilson of Hermiston, and Robert Coon of Klamath Falls, graduated from Hermiston High School in 2004.
Amanda B. Charlton
Pfc. Amanda B. Charlton, a member of the Army Reserve, has finished basic combat training at Fort Jackson near Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, she studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and receive instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Charlton earned distinction as an honor graduate.
She is the daughter of Kevin and Marla Charlton of Pendleton.
The private graduated in 2003 from Pendleton High School, and received an associate degree in 2004 from Blue Mountain Community College, Pendleton.
Pvt. Robert McBean has graduated from the quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform direct and general support maintenance on chemical equipment, quartermaster machinery, air heaters and special purpose equipment.
McBean, son of Georgialee McBean of Ukiah, and brother of Kateri McBean of Mesa, Ariz., is a 2003 graduate of Ukiah High School.
Andrew Leckie III
Pfc. Andrew Leckie III has completed the light-wheeled vehicle mechanic advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson near Columbia, S.C.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair wheeled vehicles and related mechanical components, and to operate a wheeled vehicle crane, hoist, and winch assembly.
Leckie, a 2003 graduate of Spray High School, is the son of Andrew and Kenna Leckie of Spray.
Pvt. Daniel Potts, who graduated March 11 from basic training in San Diego, has been transferred to Camp Pendleton, Calif., for Marine combat training.
Potts, a 2004 graduate of Santiam High School at Mill City, is the son of Michael and Ginger Potts of Stanfield and Maria and Eduardo Guzman of Hermiston.
