MILTON-FREEWATER - The McLoughlin High School Jazz Ensemble and Central Middle School Jazz Band returned from the Columbia Basin College Jazz Festival in Pasco with a first-place trophy, an outstanding rhythm section award and several outstanding soloist awards.

The Mac-Hi Jazz Ensemble finished its final competition of the year with a first-place trophy in a field of nine "A" division high school jazz bands. The Mac-Hi rhythm section also was awarded "outstanding rhythm section" of the day, regardless of school size.

The Mac-Hi rhythm section includes Jared Key and Edgar Saldana on drums, Andy Hetterley and Juan Robles on bass, Ruby Mitchell on piano, Jake Rowan on guitar and Sierra Brummett on vibes.

Three individual Mac-Hi musicians were named outstanding soloists: Including; Jacob Hayes, trumpet; Andy Hetterley, bass; and Jake Rowan, guitar.

Kailey VanOcker also received an outstanding soloist award for her solos with the Central Jazz Band.

The Mac-Hi bands will hold their final performances of the school year at 7 p.m. May 23 in the Yantis Park band shell in Milton-Freewater.

The final concert for the Central Middle School bands will be at 7 p.m. May 16th in Jack Williams Auditorium in McLoughlin High School.
