PENDLETON - June was a little colder and damper than normal at the Pendleton airport.

Data gathered by National Weather Service meteorologists show the average temperature was 64.8 degrees, which was half a degree below normal. High temperatures averaged 78.5 degrees, or .2 of a degree below normal.

Dennis Hull, warning coordination meteorologist at the agency's forecast office in Pendleton, said the highest temperature at the airport last month was 98 degrees on June 3. Low temperatures averaged 51.1 degrees, or .9 of a degree below normal. The lowest was 42 degrees on June 8. The temperature exceeded 90 degrees on four days last month.

Precipitation at the airport totaled .88 of an inch in June, which was .10 of an inch above normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 of an inch - fell on five days, Hull said. The heaviest, .42 of an inch, fell June 5.

Precipitation this year at the airport has reached 5.68 inches, which is 1.38 inches below normal.

For the crop year, which began Oct. 1, accumulated precipitation reached 9.84 inches, or 1.32 inches below normal. A year ago at this time, more than 14 inches of precipitation had fallen since Oct. 1.

The highest wind gust was 46 miles per hour, which occurred June 26.

The July outlook from the agency's Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation. Normal highs for the Pendleton airport in July are 87.7 degrees and normal lows are 57.5 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is .41 of an inch.
