Back yard mechanics have a new resource, thanks to The Auto Repair Conference Center at the Hermiston Public Library.

The database is available for patron use both in the library and from home via the Internet.

To access the database, patrons need a current library card number and a personal identification number. The database can be reached by going to the library Web site at www.hermistonlibrary.us and then clicking the "Auto Center" link.

Access to the database is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The reference center contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information for most vintage makes starting as far back as 1945.

Database content includes more than 33,100 vehicles covered from 1945 to present; more than 250,000 drawings and step-by-step photographs; approximately 77,570 technical service bulletins and recalls issued by the original equipment vehicle manufacturer; more than 144,600 enhanced wiring diagrams for easy viewing and printing; specifications; and maintenance schedules.

New repair procedures and updates also will be added continuously. All of the content in Auto Repair Reference Center has been created by ASE certified technicians.

Additional information or help to users get started is available at the library, 235 E. Gladys Ave., by phone at 567-2882 or by e-mail at library@hermiston.us.
