Northeast Oregon wildfire crews are facing their first big test of the season after lightning sparked more than 30 blazes Sunday night across the region.

The majority of fires reported Monday were less than an acre in size, split between the Umatilla National Forest’s North Fork John Day Ranger District and Wallowa-Whitman National Forest’s Wallowa Valley Ranger District. Both agencies expect more “holdover” fires to flare up during the week.
