SALEM - Medicare will ban the "free lunch" sales pitches during this year's fall open enrollment period that started Saturday.

Oregon' s Acting Insurance Division Administrator Teresa Miller said every year the division hears from many seniors who end up with the wrong plan. To find out what insurance agents can and can't do, or to complain about an agent or to find out what you should do when considering a Medicare plan, call the Oregon Insurance Division's consumer advocates at (888) 877-4894.

Medicare's fall open enrollment will run through Dec. 31. This is when most people with Medicare can change Medicare Advantage health plans or Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. For help comparing plans, call (800) 722-4134 for Oregon Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance program.
