HERMISTON — Water will be shut off for Hermiston customers on a portion Southwest 11th Street, Orchard Avenue and Highland Avenue for most of the day Tuesday.

Affected customers have been notified and a map of the area — which includes Foxwood Apartments, Butter Creek Apartments and the Hermiston School District offices — is available on the city website at hermiston.or.us.

According to a city news release the shutoff will allow “important” isolation valves at the intersection of 11th and Orchard to be replaced in conjunction with above-ground streetwork going on at the corner in preparation for installation of a new traffic signal. The valves date back to the 1960s and are failing.
