Conan Fisher has returned to his home town to open his first chiropractic business.

Fisher Family Chiropractic is located at 409 S.W. Fourth St. Suite C, and the chiropractor plans to plans to start administering adjustments on Feb. 1. But already he's booking appointments.

Fisher, 26, isn't quite as brawny as the fictional barbarian of the same first name, nor is he as gawky as well-known, late-night talk show host. But his height, athletic build and clean-cut look gives him a kind of "All-American" quality. He also seems to have an easy-going and self-assured personality.

Fisher is a 1999 graduate of Pendleton High School who went on to earn a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Eastern Oregon University before turning his efforts toward a degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in Jan Jose, Calif. He explained he became a chiropractor because he's had a life-long drive to build a career in a medical field, but he didn't want to pursue a degree in medicine. Also, he said, his mother suffered from back pain and he saw how that pain subsided after she went to chiropractor.

Fisher will operate out of the same building former chiropractor Terry Womack used. Some of Womack's former female clients have accused him of sexual abuse. Fisher said he is aware of that situation and described Womack as a mentor. Fisher also said he hasn't decided what kinds of policies he might put into place, such as having a woman assistant in the room when he works on a female client, to avoid sexual abuse allegations from clients.

Contractors are working in his office now to get it ready for the business' opening, installing new carpet and giving the place a fresh look. Fisher will run adjustments in two rooms and use a Thompson drop table, which gives way during adjustments. He said the table keeps joints in normal positions, and clients also prefer these kinds of tables because adjustments don't always have the audible "crack" associated with chiropractic techniques.

Fisher also is a family man, and he and his wife Jennifer have a 13-month-old daughter.
