BOARDMAN - More than 100 people watched as Nick Christman of Ione and Cara Kennedy of Lexington promised their futures to each other. The couple, winners of the EO's Wedding of Your Dreams contest, was married July 22 at the Port of Morrow.
The couple held a large reception for all the guests in the port's community center, and then enjoyed a reception for 75 guests at the River Lodge and Grill next door.
Tiffany Piper, Kim Taber and Sheena Christman, along with flower girls Lynzie Coller and Kaitlyn Thompson wore soft green while the male attendants, Kelly Thompson, Koby Rea, Nathan Kennedy and ring-bearer Elisha Coller were traditionally attired in black and white.
"Aren't the flowers beautiful," Betty Christman remarked of the wildly colorful and fragrant arrangements provided by Calico Country Florist of Pendleton. Cheryl Beck and crew set up a floral arch flanked by large arrangements for the wedding, and jumped back to work at the end of the ceremony, moving the flowers over to the reception. They also provided all the corsages, bouquets and boutonnieres for the wedding party.
Luke Basile and Daniel Stanfield played guitar music and the Rev. Keith Price officiated at the ceremony.
"Put your partner ahead of you," Price told the couple. "When you're doing that, you are laying down your life for your partner."
Betty Christman said the wedding party enjoyed the extra touches that winning the wedding brought their way, mentioning the fun they had at The Main Stylin' Nook in Stanfield, where they won aqua massages, pedicures and tanning.
The River Lodge closed its grill to customers to accommodate the wedding reception. There was a chocolate fountain, along with a host of treats from stuffed mushrooms to fresh fruit. The sunny day meant the view from the lodge of the Columbia River was breathtaking.
The couple will be able to remember their wedding with a wedding album from Timeless Photography of Pendleton. Karen Crowder has been on hand to document the couple throughout, and photographed the couple in the studio as well.
The Christmans enjoyed the music by Sight and Sound of Kennewick, and cut the cake from Super 1 Foods in Hermiston before stepping into a chauffeured Humvee from Tom Denchel Country Ford for their honeymoon night at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla. They've also won an autumn wedding trip to the Ocean Lodge in Cannon Beach, donated by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce.
Other sponsors of the contest donating prizes were Loftus Jewelers of Pendleton, Hodgen Distributing of Pendleton, Patty Turner of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Country Sunshine Hallmark, Sunshine Gourmet Shoppe, Michael's Fine Jewelry, and Morgan Financial Services.
Christman, who nominated her grandson and his girlfriend for the contest, said all the extras are wonderful and she couldn't think of a more deserving couple.
"It's a great occasion, they're the ideal couple," she said. "They are the wedding."
