Umatilla County still is in the running for funding for a new pavilion at the fairgrounds.
While at the Association of Oregon Counties Annual Conference, Commissioner Larry Givens said he received a call from Kathleen Cathy, Sen. Ron Wyden's Eastern Oregon representative.
"She just let me know ... it was passed out of committee in Congress. They voted on it and we're still in line for $450,000," Givens said Tuesday night.
Even though the county had sought $1 million, Givens was satisfied with the possible funding.
"Although it won't build a new pavilion, any funding we get that way will go to good use," he said.
