PENDLETON - A new skate park in Pendleton is about to become a reality, thanks to more than $200,000 in state grant money.

"It's extremely exciting," said Skate Park Committee Jason Noble. "We're really happy to be recipients of this grant. We can't wait to get started on construction."

The $202,110 Parks and Recreation Local Government grant requires a 50-50 match from the city, which was met with donations from Wildhorse Casino, the Pendleton Foundation, the Tony Hawk Foundation and numerous other businesses and private donators.

The city applied for the grant in April and expects to begin the process of contacting design firms within the month. A site for the park has already been selected and construction will begin sometime in the fall.
