Area pools are getting ready to splash open for the summer season - with Umatilla County's three largest complexes already open on weekends.

The aquatic centers in Milton-Freewater, Pendleton and Hermiston will be open Saturday and Sunday for the weekend only. The hours are noon-7 p.m. in Hermiston, noon to 8 p.m. in Pendleton and from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Milton-Freewater.

The Milton-Freewater facility will open full-time on June 7. The Hermiston Family Aquatic Center will be the next to open on June 8. Pendleton's will open June 9. The Helix Community Pool is expected to open Saturday. Athena's pool is set to welcome swimmers on June 11. Athena's hours of operation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and night swims and women's water aerobic classes also are scheduled. Meanwhile, Heppner's pool will be ready for fun on June 9.

Milton-Freewater Aquatic Center

The center, at the corner of Southwest Second and Dehaven streets, will be open seven days a week with two sessions of swimming. The center has barbecue nights every Thursday evening through Aug. 23. There'll be sand volleyball, water slides, water basketball and concessions available.

Outside food and beverages are not allowed, and neither is glass or alcoholic beverages. Lessons and memberships are available. For more information, call 938-9166.

Hermiston Family Aquatic Center

The Hermiston facility will be open seven days a week when its regular operation begins. During the period of June 18-Aug. 26, it will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for lessons and classes.

In addition to the water slides, spray toys, diving boards and lazy river, the facility is available for parties. The Center is located at 879 W. Elm St. Before June 7, for rates and more information, call 567-5521. After June 7, call 289-7665.

Pendleton Aquatic Center

The water park in Pendleton will be open seven days a week from noon to 7 p.m. They will be offering swimming lessons and a variety of other morning programs. The center's also available for night time rental for private parties, and has areas available for birthday parties.
