BOARDMAN - The Port of Morrow is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a public luau this Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the new transload building at 71401 Rail Loop Drive in Boardman.

Lisa Mittelsdorf, the port's director of economic development, said the celebration will be an informal affair that includes a roasted pork dinner and tours of the new 55,000 square-foot building.

Organizers will present a slide show of the port's progress, although there will be no formal ceremony, Mittelsdorf said.

"But I can't imagine, with our commissioners, that they won't want to take the mic and talk about their experiences," she added.

The transload building, the newest port improvement, will be a warehouse distribution nexus, with rail, truck and barge transportation options.
