FOSSIL - Fossil Schools have erected a greenhouse for student use, but need funding for equipment.

John Bowerman, natural resource coordinator in Fossil, said the district received a grant to build a greenhouse.

Students in all grades will be involved in gardening efforts from composting to harvest, he said. The produce they grow will be used in the schools and within the community.

The school is seeking $550 for wash basins for produce; $1,000 to pay for electrical hook-up and $2,500-$3,500 for propane to heat the greenhouse for the year.

Donations are tax-deductible and will help get crops planted for the 2010 gardening year, Bowerman said. Checks should be made out to Fossil Schools Greenhouse Foundation, Fossil, OR 97830, attention: Robin Hunt.
