Sisters open Main Street café in Pendleton

Sisters brews Seattle’s Best Coffee, starting at $1.25 a cup, and crepes are the specialty food, available in sweet or savory varieties for $6.95.

The sisters, who hail from Los Angeles, started setting up the café about three months before they opened. Both have experience running businesses and working as baristas.

Garcia managed a dental clinic in California 9 a.m.  to 6 p.m., and then worked at the Coffee Bean café from 6:30 to midnight just to gain experience working with coffee. Quezada, who recently graduated with a bachelor’s in marketing from Eastern Oregon University, has worked at Starbucks in Pendleton and L.A. She said her favorite thing to make is the white mocha, starting at $3.

Garcia said she moved to Pendleton with her husband, Jaime Ramirez, but could find no jobs in dentistry. Plan B was opening a café, something she and Quezada had discussed several years ago.

Scott McClendon and Dawn DiFuria said they were satisfied with their Sisters lunch experience Thursday.

Each paid about $12 for food and a beverage. McClendon, who sipped a caramel latte, said he was impressed with the fresh ingredients in his Greek salad. DiFuria, who ordered the “Uptown Turkey” sandwich and a vanilla frappe, said she enjoyed the atmosphere.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays.

Mayor Phillip Houk will cut the ribbon at the grand opening 4 p.m. June 21. Free samples will be available.
