BOARDMAN — Three conservation organizations are coming together to present a free small acreage workshop at the Port of Morrow’s Riverfront Center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Organizers are the Umatilla County Soil and Water Conservation District, Clean Water Neighborhood Program and the Morrow Soil and Water Conservation District.

Teresa Walchli of the Umatilla district said the workshop will focus on irrigation methods, weeds, pest (West Nile), manure and composting management, soils, Department of Environmental Quality,  groundwater, nitrates and water quality.

Roundtable presentations will be about U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service programs, Columbia Resource Conservation and Development programs, DEQ, Oregon Department of Agriculture, Umatilla County Weed Department, Morrow County Vector Control, Soil and Water Conservation District, Oregon Water Enhancement Board grants and energy efficiency programs.

Walchli said the SWCD has brought together representatives from Umatilla and Morrow counties who  are knowledgeable in one or more areas of water quality and conservation to provide advice for managing property in the best way possible for the health and welfare of the environment.

The small acreage workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about different environmentally sensitive management options, including preventing the degradation of groundwater quality.
