TOLLGATE - Skiers and snowboarders rejoice.

Spout Springs Ski Area opened for the winter season this morning at 9.

According to co-owner Nancy Murray, the resort opened after about 6 inches of new snow blanketed the slopes overnight Thursday.

"We have a base of about 30 inches," she said Friday morning, noting two double chairlifts are in operation for skiers and snowboarders.

Located on state Highway 204 approximately 22 miles from Weston, the resort will remain open, snow permitting, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, she said. The resort also offers night skiing from 5 to 9 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Ski and snowboard rentals are available.

As of Friday, Murray said there was not yet enough snow to open tubing runs. But she was hopeful they would open next weekend.
