SALEM - The Oregon Department of Agriculture has closed recreational harvesting of mussels on the coast from the south jetty of the Columbia River to Neptune State Park south of Yachats because of levels of paralytic shellfish toxins. The closure includes mussels from rocks, beaches, jetties and bay entrances.

The department also recommends against eating scallops from the closed area but says crabs are safe.
