HERMISTON — A carpool tour of curious residents will have a free sneak preview of the new Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Center in Boardman, more than a month before the Port of Morrow’s interactive museum opens to the public.

The Tour of Knowledge, a Hermiston-based grassroots effort to educate the community about natural resources, will visit the SAGE Center Friday, April 19 for an advance look at the $7 million facility and its feature attractions.

With a simulated hot air balloon ride over Morrow County and exhibits highlighting Boardman’s agricultural and energy industries, port leaders hope the SAGE?Center can bring in tourists from across the state.

Tour of Knowledge will meet at 5 p.m. in the Masonic Lodge parking lot, 200 W. Orchard Ave., and leave for the SAGE?Center by 5:30 p.m. It is the second of four free tours offered this spring, in support and partnership with the League of Women Voters of West Umatilla County.

The group will meet again at 2 p.m. May 15 to learn about the Umatilla Basin Water Commission’s Aquifer Recharge Project, and plans a final coal-based tour in June.

Space is limited in the carpool. To sign up, or for more information, call tour director Eileen Laramore at 541-561-8979.
