A train collided with an SUV in Union Tuesday, killing three people.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, the car was traveling east on Curtis Road at 2:54 p.m. and turned left onto Miller Lane and into the path of the train.
All three passengers, 43-year-old Clayton Forrest Colpitts of Union, 40-year-old Penny Jo Colpitts of Union and 20-year-old James Austin Johnston of Chiloqin, and a dog were ejected from the car after the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash hasn’t been determined.
The collision did not cause a derailment and no one was hurt aboard the train.
Although railroad crossing and stop signs were displayed, the rural crossing did not have gate arms.
