Volunteers are needed to spend this summer as the campground host at the popular Jubilee Lake Campground, about 12 miles northeast of Tollgate.

Jubilee Lake is the largest developed campground on the Umatilla National Forest, offering 53 campsites, four picnic areas and a 2.8-mile hiking trail around the lake.

The campground host not only greets and visits with campers, but performs duties such as cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies and occasional maintenance work. Jubilee Lake received 7,634 campers and 5,747 day-use visitors in 2013, according to Jeff Bloom, recreation specialist on the Walla Walla Ranger District.

Both individuals and couples can apply to be hosts, who will remain on site from early July through mid-September. Those who apply will need to supply their own camper or motor home. Hosts are provided a campsite near the main entryway into the campground, with water and sewer hookups. There is no electricity at the campground.

Though the host program is volunteer-driven, a food allowance, propane and mileage reimbursements are available through the Umatilla National Forest.

Anyone interested should contact Bloom at 509-522-6277.
