PENDLETON —?Westbound drivers today and Thursday on Interstate 84 and Interstate 82 can expect minor delays at times as a 21-foot-wide load travels from Idaho to Washington.

A news release from the Oregon Department of Transportation said an extra large load of smelting equipment should enter Oregon from Idaho around 10 a.m. via U.S. Highway 95/U.S. 30, then connect to I-84 in Ontario. Due to the load’s width and height, the transport vehicle may slow down at bridges and narrow shoulder areas. Pilot cars in front and back will control traffic when the load could take up more than one lane to avoid hitting structures.

ODOT said motorists should plan extra travel time and watch for occasional rolling slowdowns. Due to restriction for nighttime travel, the transport may stop for an overnight layover before crossing into Washington.
