HERMISTON - Workers found two leaking projectiles at the Umatilla Chemical Depot Wednesday afternoon. They placed the items in "overpack" containers to prevent further expulsion of the nerve agent Sarin.

The two 155 mm projectiles were emitting trace amounts of Sarin and were detected during routine monitoring. The projectiles were stored in a cement igloo containing weapons that have previously leaked, so they didn't need to be moved once they were overpacked, said Depot spokeswoman Mary Binder.

The small amounts of vapor posed no threat to the public or the environment, the depot said.
