Oregon Zoo's Baby River Otter 'Mo' Getting Swimming Lessons

Oregon Public Broadcasting

The Oregon Zoo's baby otter "Mo" is getting swimming lessons from his mom "Tilly."

Oregon Zoo

The two river otters are named for Oregon rivers, Mo for Mollala and Tilly for Tillamook.

Zookeepers explain that otters are not born knowing how to swim.

Until recently, the pair was kept in a private area, but are now in a public exhibit area.

Though Tilly is a first-time mom, zookeepers say she's "doing all the right things" in teaching Mo to swim.

Mo is the first river otter born at the Oregon Zoo.

An elderly sea otter "Eddie" became an Internet sensation in a video of him shooting hoops, which has been viewed more than a million times.
