The family of the reserve police officer fatally shot Sunday, has released a statement thanking people for their acts of kindness and sacrifice.
Robert Libke's family said he loved putting on the uniform and helping the Oregon City Police Department.
Speaking on OPB's Think Out Loud, Bob Ball, the commander of the Portland Police reserve officers unit, said Libke's family is being looked after, "There are state benefits that officer Libke's family will get," he said.
"In Portland, our officers have workers compensation insurance, or disability insurance. If they get hurt on the job they get two thirds of an officers pay."
The Governor's Commission on the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor voted unanimously this week to award Libke the 'Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice.'
