CORVALLIS — The Union Bobcats will try for their third Class 2A/1A softball title in six seasons today when they play Bonanza at the OSU Softball Complex.

The Special District 5 runner-up, Union is making its fourth title-game appearance since 2008 after beating North Douglas 6-4 in the semifinals. They are the defending state champs after beating Yoncalla 3-0 last season.

The No. 3 Bobcats have only lost three times this season, and all of those were to the team No. 4 Bonanza defeated in 10 innings in the semifinals in No. 1 Weston-McEwen.

Bonanza (25-6) will attempt to win in its first championship appearance, led by the arm of freshman ace Rose Anderson, who pitched a one-hitter in the semifinals.

Union’s star of the semifinals was junior Sarah Good, who had two hits and four runs batted in, including the game-winning single in the top of the eighth inning.

Sophomore Jaiden Wright will start in the circle for the Bobcats.

The game will begin at 1 p.m. and live video can be followed online at NFHSnetwork.com.
