Hale

Barbara Kay (Prock) Hale of Pendleton, Ore., died January 29, 2015, peacefully at the age of 77. Barbara was born in Heppner, Ore., to Vivian Viola and Vernon E. Prock on February 15, 1937. She graduated from Heppner High School in 1955, and was married to Herbert L. Peterson. The two had four children, Pamela Jayne, Todd, Jan and Treve. Barbara married Robert Hale in 1987. She was a loyal member of Valby Lutheran and Peace Lutheran churches.

While attending Heppner High School, Barbara was active: secretary of her class, a majorette, and editor of the school paper. On the ranch, she worked as the record and financial keeper. As a mother, Barbara was extremely involved in her children’s school, chairing the school carnival, playing in a Kitchen Kazoo Band and cheering on the teams. She was a dedicated mother who provided support and acted as role model for her children. Barbara moved to Pendleton in 1983 and enjoyed the city life, making new friends and became active in the community. While married to Bob Hale, she enjoyed traveling and grandchildren. She was filled with sorrow when Bob died 1996.

Barbara worked for the Pendleton School District and Milarkey’s and was a member of PEO BJ and Delphians. Barbara was a two time breast cancer survivor and supported the Round-Up’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink, Festival of Trees, the beginnings of St. Anthony’s Cancer Center, and the new St. Anthony’s Hospital by volunteering behind the scenes. Barbara was a dedicated friend, and greatly enjoyed socializing. Barbara loved her garden, especially her roses. She enjoyed recognizing her friends’ birthdays with cards and sending notes of encouragement.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Hale; parents Vivian Viola and Vernon Prock; stepfather Maurice Elder; brothers Wayne, Jim and Jerry Prock; sister Janice Cutsforth; daughter Pamela Jayne; and grandson Cason Terjeson.

She is survived by her sister, Colleen Ployhar (Jack) of Hermiston, Ore.; sons Todd Peterson and Treve Peterson (Elizabeth) of Ione, Ore.; daughter Jan Peterson-Terjeson (Matt) of Beaverton, Ore.; granddaughters Lydia Terjeson of Beaverton, Ore., and Renee and Haylie Peterson of Ione, Ore.; father of her children, Herbert L. Peterson of Ione; Robert Hale’s children Steve Hale (Polly) of Plymouth, Wash., Roberta Tullis (Kirk) of Pendleton, Ore., and Kevin Hale (Lori) of Pendleton, Ore., and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 210 N.W. Ninth St., Pendleton.

In lieu of flowers; contributions can be made to Ione Education Foundation or PEO BJ, P.O. Box 1061, Pendleton, OR 97801, which supports women’s higher educational dreams.
