Berniece Marie Kurz

Berniece Marie Kurz born August 10, 1922, in Condon, Oregon, to Wilbur and Olive Bennett. She died on April 4, 2013, at her home in Umatilla, Oregon, at the age of 90 years.

She was raised, attended school, and graduated in Fossil, Oregon, before moving to Hermiston, Oregon, in 1940. Berniece married Ray Kurz on April 20, 1944, in Salina, Kansas. She moved to Umatilla, Oregon, in 1945. She was a homemaker after retiring from working in the cafeteria at McNary Grade School, Umatilla, Oregon.

Berniece enjoyed gardening, flowers and various crafts. She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hermiston, Oregon.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Lee Kurz, son Douglas Allen Kurz, son Richard Ray Kurz and five grandchildren. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband Ray Kurz, her parents and a brother, Carl Bennett.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 515 S.W. Seventh St., Hermiston, OR 97838.

A private family burial will be held at the Hermiston Cemetery, Hermiston, Oregon.

Those who wish may make contributions in Berniece’s memory to Vange John Memorial Hospice at 645 W. Orchard Ave., Hermiston, OR 97838.
