Christine Marie Beach

Christine Marie Beach

Christine Marie Beach passed away April 10, 2013, after a courageous 20-month battle with brain cancer. She had spent the past months being lovingly cared for by her daughter, Marie Bartlett, and son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Angela Bartlett, at their home in Beaverton, Oregon. Chris was born July 9, 1949, in Ontario, Oregon, to Robert and Marie Beach, Sr. After spending her early years in Portland, Oregon, the family moved to Pendleton in 1964. Chris was chosen as Miss Umatilla County and subsequently Miss Oregon in 1967; the first Miss Oregon from Eastern Oregon.

After graduating from Pendleton High School in 1967, Chris worked at various jobs in Portland, including for the Oregon State Bar Association. She married Richard Bartlett in 1972 in Portland. They had two children, Charles and Marie. After their divorce, Chris returned to Pendleton, spending many years working at the Umatilla Education School District.

Chris, our daughter, mom, sister, and friend, will be remembered for her beautiful smile, infectious laugh and wonderful singing voice, but mostly for her willingness to help, encourage, and love all those who knew her. Even as her body failed, her spirit and sense of humor remained. She continued to be more concerned with those around her than herself through her last days.

Chris was preceded in death by her father, Robert Beach, Sr. She is survived by her children, Charlie (Angela) and Marie, mother Marie Beach of Pendleton, brothers Robert (Kathy) of Newberg, Oregon, and Jim (Kim) of London, UK, as well as nieces/nephews Rian Beach, Keely Beach, Patrick Beach and Adrianne (Beach) Soike.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pendleton, Ore., on April 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
