IRRIGON Dale A. Beamer, 93, of Irrigon died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon.
Mr. Beamer was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Consort, Alberta, Canada, to Glenn and May Lewis Beamer. He was raised in Canada until the age of six. His family then moved to the Eugene area, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated high school and then from Oregon State University with a bachelors degree. He then returned to work the family turkey farm with his parents outside of Eugene.
He married Elinor Leigh Williams in 1947 in Eugene. They continued to work the turkey farm until the late 1960s, when they switched to agriculture and logging. They moved to Condon in 1973, where they raised cattle and sheep until 1985. They then moved to Warden, Wash., where they raised hay and cattle. In 1995 they retired to Irrigon, where he was serving on the Irrigon Planning Commission and involved in other volunteer activities.
Mr. Beamer is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leigh Beamer of Irrigon; sons Steve Beamer of Woodburn and Keith Beamer of Moses Lake, Wash.; daughters Virginia Beamer-Highsmith of Ralston, Wyo., and Carla McMahon of Hermiston; sisters Shirley Strong of Bend and Evelyn Johnston of Milwaukie; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Idella Young; and brother Irvin Beamer.
