David Standage Green

David Standage Green

Sunday, November 17, 2013, David Standage Green went to be with his Savior at his home after complications from surgery. He was born on May 18, 1941, in Enterprise, Oregon, to Frank and Jessie (Wagner) Green. The family moved to a dairy in Irrigon in 1948 where he started school. When his father began work building McNary Dam, they moved into Hermiston where the children attended the old Sandstone School until 1954 when they moved to Cooney Lane.

David graduated in 1960 from Umatilla High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He continued his education at Western Oregon College, Columbia Basin College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Eastern Oregon College in 1965.

Returning to his home town, he began his 30-year teaching career in Umatilla Junior High where he taught science and other subjects. He coached high school football and track for all of those years as well as several years of basketball.

On June 25, 1966, he married Carolyn Christley. They made their home in Hermiston where they raised two daughters, Juli and Stefani.

Upon retirement, he began doing woodworking and refinishing antique furniture, as well as building his shop and remodeling homes. He enjoyed working in the yard and garden. Each spring he returned to school for track season as starter for running races. David was a member of Hermiston Assembly of God, having served as deacon, treasurer, Sunday School and childrenÂ’s church teacher and Royal Ranger Senior Commander, as well as general handyman.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughter and son-in-law Chad and Stefani Wilcott of Kennewick, Wash., brothers Dan (his twin) of Tacoma, Wash., Dick of Millsap, Texas, and Del of Umatilla; sister Gloria Beasley of Hermiston; grandchildren Laikyn Carnes and Jonah and Grayson Wilcott; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Juli Carnes and grandson Christian David Carnes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to disaster relief through convoyofhope.org.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23 at Hermiston Assembly of God at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
