Irene Frances Boatright
Athena May 14, 1947 - December 27, 2017

Irene Frances Boatright, 70, of Athena, Oregon, passed away at her home December 27, 2017.

Irene was born to Leroy and Leona Keene in Lancaster, California, on May 14, 1947. Most of her childhood was spent in Lancaster; however, the family

relocated to Rainier, Oregon, where she graduated from high school in 1965. California dreaming, Irene moved back to Lancaster where she later met and married the love of her life, Edwin T Boatright, or “Mr. B,” as she so lovingly referred to him.

Irene and Ed completed their family with their son, Jessie, and daughter, Wyndi. As a young family they planted roots in Athena, Oregon, in 1982, where Irene would become a successful business woman. She owned and managed a movie video rental store for 15 years and later a tax consultant business for the last 25 years. Her vast knowledge of tax law and bookkeeping skills earned her the respect of her peers and a solid customer base. Her vast knowledge of life, love and altruism earned her the respect of all who knew her as she was voted the 2005 Athena Citizen of the Year. Irene’s accomplishments were many and well deserved.

A devout Christian, Irene gave love, kindness, compassion and second chances to any who asked, and all who didn’t. All roads to Irene’s soul were paved with her love for arts and crafts, music, collectibles, table games, holiday festivities, cooking, reading, travel, surfing the web, late night info commercial shopping sprees and most of all family.

Irene is survived by her husband Ed T. Boatright of Athena; son Jesse Boatright of Athena; daughter Wyndi Kannier of Pendleton; daughter Denise Lundeen; grandchildren Airmen Blake Kannier of Misawa, Japan, Jenni Kannier of Bend, Oregon, and Bailey Kannier of Pendleton, Oregon; four sisters and two brothers.

There will be a service Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.

Arrangements are with Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Sign the online condolence book at

In closing, a prayer for Irene: Walking along a beach, sand between her toes, humming a gospel hymn and speaking with Jesus, where angels reside, singing songs to live your life by, it was overheard, it was said, that in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make. Now go rest, lover-dover-doo ... Goodnight Irene.
