Joanne Beverly Terney

Joanne Beverly Terney, 75, of Pendleton died Monday, August 25, 2014, at Kadlec Hospital in Richland, Wash. She was born in Pendleton, Ore., on September 17, 1939, to Ralph and Elva (Graham) Terney.

Joanne graduated from Pendleton High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Pacific University. After graduating, she taught school in Stayton, Ore.. Eventually she attended college in Greeley, Colorado, where she received a master’s degree in music. She then moved to Bethel, Alaska, where she taught school and music.

One of Joanne’s loves was flying. She took lessons and flew solo to Lewiston, Idaho, where she received her pilot’s license. She was a member of the Amelia Earhart Pilots Association.

After Joanne retired from teaching, she returned to live in Pendleton.

Joanne is survived by her brothers, Raphael and LeRoy Terney of Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be held at Olney Cemetery on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m.
